Looking for a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art for your wardrobe? Whether you have a hole-filled jumper you'd like fixing or fancy a custom design that's close to your heart, you're in the right place!

1. Fill out the enquiry form

Make sure to include as much information as possible. Once you’ve got done this, we’ll be in touch to make sure we'll all on the same page.

2. Get your Deposit Ticket

This is your deposit for a bespoke piece of wearable art. This secures your spot on our commission list and means we can get to the fun bit!

3. Find the right garment

If you're sending us a garment to felt on, postage is on us! We’ll send you a pre-paid shipping label for you to print at home, or a QR code to take to your nearest Royal Mail post office. Pop your garment in a parcel and send it our way.

If we're sourcing a jumper for you, we'll keep our eyes peeled for the perfect pieces for you to choose from. Because we source second hand, it's important to note that there's a good bit of luck involved. Patience can be needed if you have a specific garment in mind.

4. Pick your design

Once we have the garment, we’ll inspect it for imperfections. Holes crop up in strange places, but with years of design experience, we will create a seamless design that covers all spots and looks fantastic.

We’ll create a few designs with prices tailored to you and send it your way for approval. Sometimes we ace it first time, but if you have any edits on the design we're always happy to make adjustments. You only get one round of edits included in the deposit, so be as clear as possible about what you'd like.

Once you've picked a design, we'll send you a payment link and get started making!

5. We'll get to felting

Once you’ve approved the design, we’ll get to work needle felting. It’s a craft that requires patience so, depending on the complexity of the design, it can take 1-2 weeks to create and post. But don’t worry, it’s always worth the wait.

We'll do our best to make the final outcome match the design, but hey, it's handmade! There'll always be little difference but that just adds character.

6. Wear it with pride!

We'll post your finished garment with tracked delivery in recycled packaging, and include care instructions to make washing that bit easier. We hope you’ll love your unique garment as much as we love making them!

Feedback is really important to us! Every piece we create, we learn from and take that knowledge to the next design. If you have any feedback, big or small, we'd love to hear it at jaslewishenman@gmail.com

FAQs

What garments can you upcycle?

We accept most woollen items such as jumpers, cardigans, coats, skirts, dresses, berets, scarves, gloves, hats and berets.

Natural fibres are perfect for felting, such as wool, cashmere, angora, mohair and merino. While it's possible to felt into synthetic materials such as polyamide, nylon, acrylic or polyester, we don't recommend them. The stretchier, 'slippier' fibres make it harder for the felting to stay in place, and mean your garment may not last as long.

If you’re unsure, check the materials label.

We also sustainably source garments to upcycle, so if you don't have a piece of clothing yourself, we can let you know what we have available or how to find the perfect garment yourself.

How long will it take?

This depends on what design you would like. As part of our bespoke service, we’ll create a custom design for you and meticulously craft it, so expect 2-4 weeks. But don’t worry, it’s always worth the wait.

How much will it cost?

This depends on the scale, complexity and detail of the design, but as a rough guide;

  • Deposit Tickets are £50, which covers the design process and postage.
  • Icon Size (3cm) start at £50
  • Palm Sized (10cm) starts at £80
  • Hand Sized (20cm) starts at £150
  • Chest or back (30cm) starts at £220
  • Full sized (to cover the whole garment) starts at £330

Do we have to pay for postage?

Postage is included in your deposit. We’ll send you a pre-paid shipping label for you to print at home or take to a Royal Mail post office, making it easy to send your garment to us. Once it’s complete, we’ll send your garment to you in recycled packaging with tracked shipping.

I’ve changed my mind, can I get a refund?

Because of the bespoke nature of our service, deposits are non-refundable. We don't offer refunds or accept returns after you’ve received the finished garment.

However, we're always trying to learn and improve, so if you have any issues or questions at any stage, please don’t hesitate to tell us. We’ll help the best we can.

How do I wash and care for my garment?

You can find information on Cleaning and Care here.

What designs do you do?

Our designs are inspired by folklore and nature, which has huge scope! We sometimes share flash sheets of designs, which are removed once they’re sold to keep their garments one-of-a-kind.

Garments with lots of holes are a great challenge to design for, as we want the overall aesthetic to be seamless. This means that fixing the holes is the first thing we’ll consider when designing, while making sure it looks fantastic and suits your wardrobe too.

For bespoke designs, the imagery is up to you. We love to tell a story, so sentimentality is absolutely encouraged.

There are some design ideas we can’t do. We will never copy another artists work or trace an image directly, but we’ll do our best to suggest alternatives and meet you in the middle.
